Lead Web Developer - Full Stack

Overview

Join an award-winning development team and work on transformative projects. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Lead Web Developer to join our growing team. This role bridges technical leadership with hands-on development, mentoring, and guiding a team of web developers. The ideal candidate will be a full-stack expert, comfortable with both front-end and back-end technologies, and have strong leadership and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Act as a guiding leader for the development team, fostering a people-centric culture. Motivate, mentor, and support the technical progression of team members, helping to build a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Mentoring & Skill Development: Identify skills gaps within the team and assist with development plans to enhance performance. Provide ongoing mentorship to ensure continuous learning and growth.
  • Technical Expertise: As a master across the stack, lead by example by delivering high-quality work in coding, testing, and debugging. As well as working with technical leadership to help define business conventions in development whilst utilising best practices.
  • Technology Evangelism: Stay informed about the latest web development trends and emerging technologies. Communicate their business value to technical leadership and encourage their adoption where appropriate.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project management and technical leadership to translate technical requirements into development briefs. Ensure alignment between development team and project objectives.
  • Project Oversight: Review, assess, and sign-off on all technical deliverables. Ensure they meet the highest quality standards and align with project timelines and client expectations.
  • Performance Management: Monitor and report on team performance to technical leadership, ensuring all members are meeting productivity goals and maintaining technical quality.
  • Agency Conventions: Learn, adapt to, and promote the agency’s technical standards and commercial direction. Act as a champion for improving processes and increasing team efficiency.
  • Software maintenance: Working with the project management and technical leadership to assist the team with performing upgrades to ensure software is maintained.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in leading a team of web developers in an agency or fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding and experience with modern PHP frameworks and JavaScript libraries (Nuxt.js, Vue.js).
  • Deep knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript).
  • Proficiency in back-end development, including working with different frameworks, database, and creating/using third-party APIs.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, and a good understanding of server/network infrastructure. Nice to haves - knowledge of containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
